ANNUAL REPORT XVII amounted to £51 674 which is record total and an increase of £755 on the previous year At the end of the Session the new East Wing was completed and complete statement will be published in the next Report dealing with the cost of its erection and equipment The cost has been met partly by means of the New Buildings Fund and partly by means of loan of £25 000 Arrangements have been made to repay this loan in period of about twenty-four years at the rate of £2 000 per annum this payment to include capital and interest on the amount outstanding The College was again able to make considerable provision for apparatus for the Laboratories and spent £2 432 on this account of which £1 941 was provided out of Revenue and the balance from Endowment Funds and Donations The total income for the year amounted to £127 023 and the expenditure including £4 500 as the year's contribution to the New Buildings Fund to £125 421 leaving credit balance of £1 602 which has been transferred to the New Buildings Fund 12 Benefactions Dr Aldren Turner presented for the use of the Anatomy Depart- ment collection of about one hundred slides photographs of sections of brain and spinal cord prepared by Sir David Ferrier and himself in the course of their neurological investigations carried out in what is now part of the Anatomy Department of the College The original preparations were presented to the Department by Sir David Ferrier and Dr Aldren Turner some years ago The lantern slides were made by Mr Barnard formerly Lecturer in Microscopy in the College The collection is thus memorial of the valuable work done in the College more than thirty years ago by three very distinguished men Professor Blair reports that apart from their historical value many of the slides will be of great use in the teaching work of the Department Twelve hundred Botanical and Zoological slides were presented to the College by the widow of Professor Groves who was Professor of Botany in the College from 1887 to 1893 The Edison Swan Electric Company Limited presented to the College two new electric supply meters for the Department of Electrical Engineering Professor Jameson made gift to the Department of Civil Engineering of an 8" Zeiss Level 13 Buildings and Accommodation The new East Wing has now been completed and was opened for occupation in October 1929 by the Departments of Geology Geography History Education Journalism and Classics The new Lecture Rooms and Class Rooms have turned out even better in reality than they appeared on the Architect's plan and will make very real addition to the general comfort and efficiency of the College
