xvi ANNUAL REPORT most cordial and helpful The year's working has amply proved the advantage to education as whole of the development of closer understanding and sympathy with the different but allied educa- tional problems of University and Training College proposal was received from Westminster College which has now been recognised by the Board of Education as Four-Year College to send some of its students to King's College for their academic train- ing during the first three years The proposal was accepted with satisfaction Advantage has been taken of the increased accommodation afforded by the erection of the East Wing to make more adequate provision for students for the Diploma in Journalism They will for the first time be provided with room specifically allocated to them which will it is hoped serve as centre for social contact as well as for instruc- tion When circumstances permit it is intended to provide small library of books of reference such as are found in an editor's office and perhaps small museum illustrative of the practical aspects of the profession All Journalism students at present come to the College for their practical instruction and the greater number are registered students of the College The question is also under consideration of making more adequate special provision for the cultural as opposed to the technical part of the course for the Diploma It is particularly desired to develop the tutorial supervision of students of the College who are candidates for the Diploma These plans which must involve rearrangements and possibly increases of Staff require careful con- sideration but it may be fofmd possible during the next Session to devise the means of meeting an undoubted need 10 Library The number of readers and the number of books lent out have been maintained There is an increase in the number of books presented to the College complete list will be found in Appendix IV In consequence of the increased accommodation afforded by the opening of the new Aldwych Building one of the rooms in this block is being fitted up as special library for the Modern Greek books and certain of the Classical books These will now be removed from the General Library where they have hitherto been housed in the same room with books belonging to other departments It is hoped that large room immediately over the General Library which has been vacated by the Geological Department may be fitted up in the near future as Science Library In the meantime it will be used as reading room with view to relieving the pressure on the General Library 11 Finance Of the grant of £49 000 from the University Grants Committee £4 500 was again set aside for the Fund for New Buildings The fees
