70 prizes Milltam Stebbing pri3e This Prize was founded by the late William Stebbing Esq who lett to the Council the sum of £150 to found an annual Prize for English Verse or Prose The Prize is of the value of about £6 104 and is open to all Regular Students of the College who have completed two Terms in the case of day and four Terms in the case of evening students and have not exceeded nine Terms The exercise must be typewritten and distinguished by some motto the candidate at the same time sending his name and motto to the Secretary under sealed cover before May 31st The subject for 1928 is translation into English verse from any Classical Mediaeval or Modern foreign language of poem or poems the total length of which should not fall short of 50 nor exceed 100 lines Stepben pri3e for English Essay Sir George Stephen presented to the College sum of Fifty Guineas which is invested in the Public Funds The annual interest is given in Books for the best English Essay on such subjects as shall be fixed by the Principal This Prize which is now of the value of £3 3s is open to all Regular Students of the College not being Associates who have completed one Term and not exceeded nine Terms The Essay which must be type-written should be distinguished by some motto the Candidate at the same time sending his name and motto to the Secretary under sealed cover Subject for 1928 Meredith and Hardy as poets contrasted with Tennyson and Browning It should reach the Secretary by May 24th 1928 Prizemen For names of those elected previously to 1926 see former Calendars 1926 Brown Elaine Robertson 1927 West Sydney George Drew 30lb fl&ebal for fltatbematics This prize was founded by the Professor of Mathematics in memory of his eldest son Robert Middlemist Drew Mathematical Scholar elect of St John's College Oxford who died before he had completed his 17th year on Commemoration day at King's College 1870
