52 scholarships and exhibitions The Principal shall inform the Heads of each Department in the Faculties of Natural Science Medical Science and Engineering that there is vacancy for the Studentship and shall request them to report on any student in their Department whom they may desire to recom- mend for the Studentship They must furnish and report on the career and qualifications of the Candidate they recommend and the kind of research he is desirous of undertaking After receiving these reports the Principal shall recommend to the Delegacy Candidate for appointment or shall state that in his opinion there is no candidate of sufficient merit The usual appointment of student shall be for two years but the Delegacy shall require report on his progress from the Professor of his Department at the end of each year and may if they consider it necessary decline to renew the Studentship They may at the end of the two years renew the Studentship from year to year if strong recommendation to that effect is made by the Principal provided that in no case it be held for more than four years Every Layton Student shall during his tenure of office carry on research work under the advice and direction of the Professor of his Department either in the College Laboratories or elsewhere He shall not without the consent of the Delegacy undertake any other work but he may be called upon to do such teaching in the College as is not incompatible with his research work The Delegacy may out of any surplus income of the Fund make grants towards the expenses for travelling and research Layton Students For the names of those elected before 1926 see previous Calendars 1926 Drmlop Hugh Alexander 1927 Warren Leonard Arthur aniell Scbolarsblp This Scholarship was founded in honour of John Frederick Daniell Professor of Chemistry in King's College Its object is to encourage the prosecution of original research in Chemistry This Scholarship is of the annual value of Ā£40 is tenable for one year and is open to every regular student of the College It will be awarded after the results of the University Honours Examination to the student who seems most likely to prove good research worker The Scholar must undertake to stay at least one year more at the College and if possible obtain his So degree Scholars For the names of those elected before 1926 see previous Calendars 1925 Hurtley William Robert Hardy 1926 Webb Walter Weston Sc 1926-27 Young Kenneth William 1927-28 Brasher Dora Mary
