ANNUAL REPORT XXXV of the Conjoint Board and during the Easter Term 31 25 for the degree and for the Conjoint Board Examination The Examination results show that 33 students entered for the II Examination of whom 21 passed failed and were referred while for the Conjoint Board Examinations 10 entered in October of whom passed in January of whom passed and in March all of whom passed FACULTY OF ENGINEERING The number of students 135 showed slight increase as compared with 130 in the previous Session There were during the Session 53 First Year 30 Second Year 32 Third Year Post-graduate and 14 Occasional students In the Intermediate Examination 16 passed and were referred as against who passed and who were referred in the previous Session Twenty-five students entered for the Internal Final Sc Eng Examination in July Of these 13 obtained First Class Honours Second Class Honours and passed Seven students entered for the External Final Sc Eng Examination Of these obtained First Class Honours Second Class Honours and passed Sixteen students were awarded the College Diploma in Engineering with Advanced Mathematics and obtained the Certificate in Engineering The new Siemens Prizes for Mechanical and for Electrical Engineering were awarded this Session for the first time and new General Engineering Prize was instituted for the best Second Year Engineering Student in the seven subjects taken by all students The new Laboratory for the Chemistry of Metals provided from the Siemens fund was equipped and brought into use during the Session for Mechanical and Electrical students On the 21st July the Senate granted the application of the College for Alternative Papers at the Sc Eng Examination for Internal Students for period of four years 1927-31 on the same general lines as under the scheme already approved by the Senate for the Imperial College which took effect this year Department or Civil Engineering Dr Lobban continued his work as Engineer in the design and construction of the Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society's building in Southampton Row and was appointed to direct similar work on the new building for the London School of Hygiene The University approved the institution of Readership in Civil Engineering tenable at the College Mr White Sc was promoted to the status of Lecturer in Civil Engineering The Professor continued to serve on the British Engineering Standards Association's Committee on Cast Iron Pipes for Water Gas and Sewage The Staff of the Department continued to assist in the teaching of Geography Three Post-graduate students were conducting researches on The Supporting Power of Sand and Clay The Flow of Water through Sharp-edged Contractions and Culverts in
