ANNUAL REPORT xxxiii either of increasing or of decreasing the number of successes larger number of candidates from the College satisfied the Examiners in the Primary Fellowship Examination than has been the case for some years past Dr Fahmy Lecturer in Anatomy at the Cairo Medical School was sent by the Egyptian Ministry of Education to the Anatomy Department of King's College where for the past year he has studied our methods of teaching anatomy Dr Fahmy has given invaluable assistance to the Staff of the Department and has been engaged in important research work Mr Dunlop Mr Μ Evans and Mr Jones pursued Post-graduate studies The Department was actively engaged in the pursuit of original research Several important pieces of work were completed and others are still in the stage of investigation They include the following Dr Gladstone Dr Gladstone with Mr Dunlop Mr Dunlop Dr Fahmy Reconstruction of mm human embryo Reconstruction of the brain and associated structures of 20 mm human embryo The etiology of hydrocephalus Absence of the corpus callosum Partial absence of the cerebellum Distribution of the lymphatics of the heart The so-called Depressor Nerve in Man Investigation of the intra- and extra-cranial parts of the IX Χ XI nerves The antiquated system of electric lighting in the Dissecting Room which has been in use for about two generations is being superseded by new and thoroughly up-to-date method of lighting The new system is not only more effective than the old but promises to reduce very considerably the cost of maintenance At the commencement of the Session the Professor was elected Fellow of the College He continued to act as the Honorary Secretary of the Anatomical Society of Great Britain and Ireland and as one of the Editors of the Journal of Anatomy In addition to examining in Anatomy for the London Degree he was for the past year External Examiner in Anatomy to the University of Cambridge Dr Gladstone retained the office of Recorder of the Anatomical Society and acted as examiner for the certificate in Massage and Medical Gymnastics Mr Wakeley was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and in addition to his other posts was appointed Assistant Surgeon to the Belgrave Hospital for Children The supply of material for practical anatomy has been fully sufficient for the needs of the Department Lack of storage accommodation has however proved hindrance The Lecture Theatre which was designed to meet the needs of past age requires complete reseating It is hoped that this work may be undertaken in the near future The Department is still greatly in need of an epidiascope
