xxvi ANNUAL REPORT In addition to the Veraguth-Waller apparatus for demonstrating the Psychogalvanic Reflex the Laboratory has been equipped with apparatus for securing and recording Tachograms according to the method of Godefroy Department of Education Numbers of students -Fourteen students were working for higher degrees for that of Ph and for that of Mr Nicholas Hans was granted the degree of Ph for thesis on "The History of Russian Educational Policy 1801-1917 Miss Elizabeth Morris was granted the degree of with mark of distinction for thesis on The Education of Girls in England from 1600 to 1800 Fifty-four students were working for the Teachers Diploma of whom 39 were men and 15 women Forty-five students 32 men and 13 women took the examination and 38 of these 25 men and 13 women were granted the Teacher's Diploma and woman Miss Yardley gained one of the only two marks of distinction given The principal development in the work of the Department was the admission of women into the class of students reading for the Teacher's Diploma This departure was fully justified The number of women admitted during the Session was 15 and already twice that number have been accepted for next Session The admission of women necessitated the appointment of woman lecturer Miss Farrow who held the post of part-time Lecturer during the Session and will become full-time Assistant Lecturer at the begin- ning of next Session Similarly larger increase in the number of men students led to the appointment of Mr Hill as Lecturer with special reference to the teaching of science Professor Adamson con- sented to assist in the instruction of students reading for higher degrees and Mr Ward late Chief Inspector of Training Colleges was appointed an Honorary Lecturer in the Department The Journal of Adult Education half-yearly review which begins publication in September 1926 is to be edited by the Head of the Department Mr Hill acting as editorial secretary FACULTY OF LAWS During the session 61 students enrolled in the Faculty an increase of 17 over the number enrolled in the Session 1924-5 Of these 38 were registered as Internal Students an increase of 10 on the previous Session 21 were occasional students being more than in 1924-5 and were Post-graduate students At the Special Intermediate Examination for the LL degree students passed One of them Mr Reginald Goff obtained the Joseph Hume Scholarship tenable at University College At the Final Examination for the LL degree 11 students entered of them ob- tained First Class Honours Three candidates only from all the Colleges obtained that distinction One of the students Mr Herbert Davies
