XV111 ANNUAL REPORT his expert knowledge of the national archives or too warmly of the ready kindness with which he has placed his knowledge at the service of all who have sought his advice The work which Dr Hall inaugurated and developed in the College has been divided between two part-time Readers Dr Claude Jenkins Pakeography and Mr Hilary Jenkinson Diplomatic and Archives Each of them is at present engaged in revising and enlarging the collection of facsimiles needed for the use of his students Two courses of public lectures were arranged by the Department during the course of the Session The Social and Political Ideas of some Great Thinkers of the Renaissance and the Reformation and The Political Principles of some Notable Prime Ministers of the Nineteenth Century The second of these two courses delivered in the spring of 1926 drew larger regular audience than any previous course of public lectures Both series of lectures have been published Professor Hearnshaw acted during the Session as Chairman of the Education Committee of the Victoria League Professor Newton was again elected Chairman of the Board of Studies in History and Chairman of the Board of Final Examiners Miss Levett was appointed member of the Editorial Committee of the newly founded Economic History Review Dr Bevan received the distinction of re- appointment as Speaker's Lecturer in the University of Oxford and in this capacity he delivered course of six lectures on Jewish Religious History from the Death of Herod the Great to the War of Barkokla -a 132 Dr Hubert Hall delivered three short courses of lectures on various Special Sources of English History Mr Α Judges 1925 was appointed Lecturer at the School of Economics Miss Mildred Hudson 1926 was appointed Tutor in History to the Warrington Training College Mr Ross 1925 was awarded Research Studentship in the University Mr Beales 1925 held the Inglis Studentship during the Session Department of French Day Evening Total Intermediate 80 20 100 Pass 23 17 40 Honours 57 57 Com Intermediate 40 47 87 Com Final 42 57 99 383 Of the 10 students who sat for the Final Honours Examination obtained First Class Honours Second Class Honours Third Class Honours and failed There were Post-graduate students in the Department Mr Smith who was preparing thesis for the degree of Ph on The
