xiv ANNUAL EEPORT proved in every way success Dr Furze the Bishop of St Albans preached at the Commemoration Service on the last Monday of the Michaelmas Term debate was held in the Great Hall in the afternoon The motion That the Women's Movement has failed was proposed by Mr Worsley seconded by Mr Driver and opposed by Mr Stevens and Miss Edmunds The Week ended with final Supper and Dance on the evening of the Tuesday before Christmas The King's College Review was not particularly successful during the session This was not in any way due to the Editor Miss Todd- Naylor who did her utmost for the magazine but to the lack both of contributions and of subscriptions The College played its part during the session in the student life of the University It provided Vice-President and three members of the committee for the University of London Union Society member of the College also acted as the Honorary Secretary of the Athletic Union and another as Honorary Treasurer Several members of the College represented the University at Cricket Rugby Football Association Football and Hockey The Honorary Secretary of the University Cricket Club was one of the students of the College Mr Soper went to Geneva as the College representative in the Long Vacation to attend the European Student Relief Conference One of the cKief events of the year was the production in the Lent Term by the Dramatic Society of Love's Labour's Lost" in modern costume large measure of praise is due to those who were chiefly responsible for the production-Mr Beck Mr Harrison and Mr Isaacs The College remained open throughout the strike in the beginning of May and every effort was made to carry on work Necessarily there was some interruption as many of the students particularly the men students undertook outside work Several were employed by the Underground Railways as attendants at sub-stations and power stations others worked on the Southern Railway as electric train drivers or in handling milk supplies In addition number worked as omnibus drivers and as stokers on steam trains The athletic sports were held in June having been postponed from May 8th on account of the strike There was fairly good attendance at the meeting and the weather was fine enough to have warranted larger attendance than was actually present number of students of the College attended the meeting of the British Association at Oxford some of them by the aid of bursaries given by the Delegacy on the recommendation of the Professorial Board and Mr Barnes of the Faculty of Engineering was elected secretary of the general body of students from all Universities present at the meeting 15 Functions reception was given by the Principal and Miss Barker to all the members of the Staff on April 28th the opening day of the Summer Term in the Great Hall
