χπ ANNUAL REPORT 6-inch centrifugal pump in recognition of the action of the College in allowing certain experiments to be made by him in the Civil Engineering laboratories The General Electric Company presented Fleuss Pump for the use of the Physics Department and the Albion Motor Company of Glasgow gave gear-box and back-axle for use in the Department of Mechanical Engineering 11 Buildings Minor improvements were effected in the Chemical laboratories where in some of the lower research rooms very efficient ventilating system was installed During the year considerable attention was given to plans which had been prepared by Mr Troup for the provision of additional accommodation in the College and during the Long Vacation his proposals in regard to the Departments of Physics and Psychology were carried into effect In the former mezzanine floor has been run across the Wheatstone Laboratory and the George III Museum and this has provided an Honours Laboratory with about 800 feet of floor Lecture Room to seat 59 students small Research Laboratory an Honours Reading Room and Library and private room for the Wheatstone Professor The total additional area is over 000 feet and the new rooms are exceptionally well lighted all the old windows having been enlarged and two new windows cut in the eastern wall The cost of these alterations will amount to about £4 500 and new furniture and equipment have been provided at cost of about £600 The Department of Psychology is to be housed in the rooms on the top floor of the house formerly occupied by the Principals of the College The rooms are being reconstructed and useful addition has been made by the construction of Laboratory with about 500 feet of floor area immediately under the roof of the arch- way at the south end of the Quadrangle The cost of these alterations will amount to about £1 200 By the transference of the Department of Psychology to the new rooms the provision of an additional Labora- tory for the Department of Chemistry has been rendered possible and in addition small room will become available for use as Committee Eoom 12 Hostels The Platanes -During the session suitable room was set aside as library shelves were provided and books were purchased from the grant of £100 made by the College Library Committee There were 67 students and members of the Staff in residence King's College Hostel for Women -Dr Tribe resigned the office of Warden in December and Miss Farrow Assistant Lecturer in Education at the College was appointed to succeed her The Delegacy recorded their appreciation of Miss Tribe's services Miss Plumer resigned her membership of the Women's Hostel Committee in November and Dr Tribe was appointed to fill the vacant place There were 47 students in residence at the Hostel and several
