ANNUAL REPORT vii one of the Universities of the United States Miss Nora Edmed former Senior Woman Student was awarded Senior Fellowship at Smith College Massachusetts Students of King College won the three University Post-graduate Studentships Mr Barnes in the Faculty of Engineering and Mr Ross and Miss Warren in the Faculty of Arts Mr Balls won the Derby University Scholarship and Mr Cantle University Scholarship for History Mr Dunlop was appointed Layton Science Research Student and Mr Webb Daniell Scholar Miss Warren was awarded the College Student- ship in Geography and Mr Collier the Berridge Research Student- ship in Public Health Mr Maddocks was awarded the Serbo- Croat Scholarship offered by the Jugo-Slav Government Two students received prizes from the Commercial Education Department of the London Chamber of Commerce and one of them was awarded the French Government Silver Medal for Senior French The following students received awards during the session from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and will be working in the College under the Supervisors indicated during the session 1926-7 Student Ε Ford Miss Latter Lewis Chalklin Style Taylor Barber Chivers Foster Supervisor Professor Huxley Professor Gates Professor Richardson Professor Allmand Professor Allmand Professor Smiles Professor Smiles Mr Fairbourne Numbers of Full-time Students The number of full-time students in the College in the various Faculties during the session was as follows -In the Faculty of Arts 432 381 of whom 297 286 were taking course for Degree and 135 95 course for Diploma in the Faculty of Natural Science 234 236 of whom 233 233J were taking course for Degree and course for Diploma in the Faculty of Medical Science 262 301 of whom 127 119 were taking course for Degree and 135 182 the Examinations of the Conjoint Board in the Faculty of Engineering 121 127 of whom 99 92 were taking course for Degree and 22 35 course for the College Diploma and in the Faculty of Theology 108 102 of whom 24 21 were taking course for Degree and the remainder the course for the Associateship of King's College In the five Faculties there were thus 1157 1147 full-time students In addition there were 179 168 evening students taking course for The corresponding figures for the previous session 1924-5 are given in square brackets
