203 faculty of Engineering Dean of the FacvUy Prof Gilbert Cook Sc Inst Mech Vice-Dean Prof Alexander Hope Jameson Sc This Faculty provides systematic Course of Study of University character for those intending to devote themselves to Engineering It is arranged so as to give preparation for those wishing to take the Sc in Engineering at the University of London and the Diploma of the College All Students who intend working for the Sc Degree are strongly advised to sit for the Matriculation Examination of the University held each year in January June and September before entering the College in October They can then be registered as Internal Students of the University of London and are eligible to take the Intermediate Examination in the College For Engi- neering Students it is also desirable that the subjects taken for the Matriculation Examination of the University should include Chemistry and modern foreign language Students who have passed the Intermediate Sc Science and who propose to enter the 2nd year Engineering Course are advised to consult the Dean as soon as possible with regard to the extra work required to complete the Engineering Intermediate Examination so that some of this work may be undertaken before the Session commences The scientific principles which underlie all branches of Engineering together with the methods of applying those principles are taught in carefully arranged and graduated Courses The Courses set forth in the Calendar are those taken by Students entering for three years either for the College Diploma or the Sc Eng or both Students taking the Three-Year Course are strongly recommended to spend at least one half of each of their two Summer Vacations in Engineering Works The College will assist them as far as possible in obtaining such experience which will be found most valuable in their College Work and in enabling them to obtain employment on the completion of their College Course Students are reminded that their College Course represents only part of their education as Engineers
