44 KING'S COLLEGE LONDON The Wheatstone Library bequeathed to the College by Pro- fessor Sir Charles Wheatstone which consists of valuable books on Electricity and kindred subjects up to the year 1875 The Skeat and Furnivall Library formed from the libraries of Professor Skeat and Dr Furnivall The books were presented to the English Department by Mrs Skeat and Dr Percy Furnivall The Slavonic Library which contains collection of books dealing with Russian and other Slavonic languages Some of these books were bequeathed to the College by the late Principal Dr Ronald Burrows These books are now housed at the Institute of Historical Research Malet St The Mediaeval and Modern Greek Library to which also Dr Burrows left many of his books some of unique value dealing with Byzantine History and with the language and literature of Modern Greece Beside these special collections there are also various departmental libraries The total number of books in the General and other Libraries together is approximately 70 000 The General Library is open for the use of all Regular Students and such Occasional Students as shall pay for admission thereto £1 Is per Session 10 6d per Term at the following hours In Term Monday to Friday 10 to 15 Saturday 10 to In Vacation 10 to and to 30 except Saturdays The Library is closed for week at Easter for the month of August and for few days at Christmas MUSEUMS Kino George the Third Queen Victoria presented to King's College in 1841 the valuable Collection of Mechanical Models and Philosophical Instruments formed by King George the Third Part of the Collection is con- tained in the Museum which bears his name but the greater portion has been transferred on loan to the Science Museum at South Kensington The Museum also contains the valuable collection of the late Sir Charles Wheatstone and from time to time extensive additions have been made by the Council and by the donations of private individuals Anatomy The Anatomical Museum contains valuable collection presented to the College by the widow of the late Professor Hughes and also collections presented by Sir David Ferrier The collections and exhibits are under the care of the Professors of the several subjects and Students wishing to have access to any of the specimens must obtain permission
