ANNUAL REPORT xi of Roumania and the Near East as well as Lectureship in Roumanian Language and Literature The Delegacy decided to institute Senior Studentship in Geography similar to the Inglis Studentships in English and History and with similar conditions of tenure At the request of the Senate the College submitted its views on the subject of Incorporation and the relation of King's College to the University for presentation to the Departmental Committee on the University of London and in March 1925 the College represented by Lord Hambleden the Principal the Dean and Professor Jenkins with the Secretary in attendance appeared to give evidence before the Committee The Centenary of the College will shortly be celebrated in 1928 and committee of the Delegacy was accordingly appointed to discuss schemes for its celebration They will probably include an appeal for the endowment of Chairs and for new construction to provide improved accommodation in the College Library The number of readers and the number of books lent out were well maintained special grant of £2 500 was made by the University Grants Com- mittee for the purchase of books and for binding An opportunity occurred for acquiring complete set of Migne's Patrologia Latina et Grceca and this was bought out of the special grant Other important large works and series are also being purchased out of the grant list of books presented to the Library during the session will be found in Appendix IV The Delegacy agreed that the Council Room should be used in the mornings when not required for important meetings as reading-room for students to relieve the congestion in the Library This concession proved to be of great practical benefit to the students concerned room has also been set aside to house the collection of French books for the use of the French Department which will thus gain the same facilities as are enjoyed by the Departments of English and History Finance The grant from the University Grants Committee remained at £40 000 of which £2 000 was earmarked for the School of Slavonic Studies The income from Fees amounted to £46 368-an increase of nearly £3 000 on the previous year The sum of £520 as com- pared with £818 in the previous Session was spent on Minor Altera- tions and Improvements of the College buildings but in addition £500 was spent and £4 456 was set aside from the year's income for the building of new laboratories for Zoology Physiology and Geology
