χ ANNUAL EEPORT Faculties of Arts Natural Science Medical Science and Engineering was 1045 as compared with 944 in the previous session The examina tion results obtained in July 1925 were even better than those of the previous year which were themselves exceptional Twelve of the students in the Faculty of Engineering were placed in the First Class Fifteen of the students in the Faculty of Arts including in the Department of English in that of History and in that of French obtained First Class and in the Faculty of Natural Science 13 students in Chemistry in Mathematics in Physics and in Botany and in Geology and in Zoology were equally successful In all 40 of the students of the College were placed in the First Class in the three Faculties of Arts Natural Science and Engineering-a number which remains in excess of that of any other College of the University It was resolved to close the Department of Bacteriology and Public Health as from July 31st 1925 Owing to recent changes of policy the number of students of public health had greatly diminished and the foundation of the new School of Hygiene had provided centre in which the study of public health could most profitably and eSectively be concentrated The College will not however discontinue entirely its work in public health and the Berridge Fund for the promotion of such work supplemented by monies from the general funds of the College and the income of the Desvignes Legacy is to be used for the foundation of Senior Scholarships to be attached to the Department of Physiology for research in this field of investigation Arrangements were made to open the Teachers' Diploma Course to women as well as to men during the coming session At the beginning of the session an arrangement was made with Furzedown Training College that those of its students who were proceeding to degree should attend King's College for their degree course At the beginning of the Jtfichaelmas Term 11 students joined the College under this arrangement The Delegacy again awarded Bursaries to students from women's Training Colleges to enable them to take the Day Diploma Course in English Negotiations between the University and the subscribers to the Koraes Chair of Modern Greek resulted in new form of agreement relating to the tenure of that Chair Under the agreement new Koraes Committee consisting of representatives of the University the Delegacy and the subscribers will be appointed to aid in the pro- motion of Modern Greek Studies It is hoped that this Committee will be instituted soon after the beginning of the session 1925-6 and that it will shortly be possible to proceed to the election of new Professor During the session the Roumanian Government offered to institute for three years lectureship dealing with the Social and Economic History of Roumania and the Near East The Lectureship admirably completes the Staff of the Roumanian Department which has now lectureships dealing with the General and with the Economic History
