viii ANNUAL REPORT Several students in the Faculty of Arts won distinctions Mr Wickwar and Miss Hill were elected to Post-graduate Studentships of the University and Mr Α Judges to Studentship at the London School of Economics Miss Utley was awarded Post-graduate Student- ship at Westfield College Mr Crotch won the George Smith Studentship of the University Mr Harold Midgeley an old evening Honours student who obtained First Class in 1917 was appointed Headmaster of the Sir George Monoux School Walthamstow and Mr Zickhausen who completed his Course in German in 1924 was awarded scholarship at St John's Hall Highbury Two students of the College received prizes from the London Chamber of Commerce Com- mercial Education Department and one of them was awarded the French Government Silver Medal for proficiency in French Miss Ridley and Mr Humphreys won University Scholarships in Spanish and in English respectively and Mr Glover and Mr Heather were awarded University Exhibitions in Languages In the Faculty of Natural Science Miss Μ Shaw of the Department of Zoology was awarded the Harold Row Research Studentship and the Fletcher-Warr Studentship of the University was awarded to Mr Harrison former student of the College who after obtaining the degree of Sc with First Class Honours and subsequently the degree of Sc proceeded to Cambridge to work under the direction of Sir Gowland Hopkins Mr Hurtley student in the Department of Chemistry who obtained his degree in Chemistry with First Class Honours in 1924 was awarded the Daniell Scholarship The following members of the College received awards during the session from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and will be working in the College under the Supervisors indicated in each case during the session 1925-6 Student Chivers Barber Hurtley Lewis Taylor Burns Foster Brotherton Chalklin Miss Latter Supervisor Professor Smiles Professor Smiles Professor Smiles Professor Allmand Professor Allmand Professor Allmand Mr Fairbourne Professor Richardson Professor Richardson Professor Gates Numbers of Full-time Students The number of full-time students in the College in the various Faculties during the session was as follows -In the Faculty of Arts The corresponding figures for the previous session 1923-4 are given in square brackets
