iv ANNUAL REPORT Changes in the Staff Administrative There were very few changes in the tenure of administrative offices during the session Dr Rose was appointed Tutor to students attend- ing language classes in the College with view to the degree of Com in place of Professor Atkins who has been responsible for the adminis- tration of these classes since their initiation in 1919 Mr Camp bell resigned the office of Warden of King's College Hall and Dr Lawrence was appointed as his successor Teaching Staff Retirements -Professor Sir William Simpson and Professor Hewlett Professors in the Department of Bacteriology and Public Health Dr Sommerville Assistant Professor of Public Health Dr Taylor Lecturer in Bacteriology Mr Partridge Lecturer in the Chemistry of Public Health and Mr Charles Lecturer on the Food and Drugs Act retired on the closing of the Department of Bacteriology and Public Health Professor Walters Lecturer in Palseography since 1923 retired from his appointment Dr Hubert Hall relinquished the Readership in Palaeography Resignations -Mr Laistner resigned his Readership in Ancient History on his appointment to the Chair of Ancient History in the University of Cornell Mr Sydney Boyd Lecturer in Applied Anatomy resigned his appointment owing to pressure of other duties Mr Jones resigned his appointment as Assistant Lecturer in Physics and Dr Thomson Rankin resigned his office of Honorary Demonstrator in Physiology New Appointments Professorships and Readerships -Professor Atkins hitherto Professor of the College was appointed during the session full University Professor Mr Julian Huxley was appointed to the Chair of Zoology left vacant by the death of Professor Dendy Mr Huxley was for time Lecturer at Balliol College and Demon- strator in the Department of Comparative Anatomy in the University of Oxford for six years he was Assistant Professor of Biology in the Rice Institute Texas where he entirely organised the Department of Biology In 1919 he was elected Fellow of New College Oxford and became Senior Demonstrator in the University Department of Comparative Anatomy post which he held until his appointment at King's College He helped to organise and took part in the first Oxford expedition to Spitzbergen in 1921 He has published number of works on animal biology Professor Sir William Simpson and Profe3sor Hewlett were both appointed Emeritus Professors by the Senate on their retirement from their Chairs The Senate also con- ferred the title of Reader in Human Embryology on Dr Gladstone Other Appointments Faculty of Arts -In the Department of Classics Professor Conway of the University of Manchester was
