166 FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCE certain number of questions in the papers for Students in this Faculty are set so as to test the Candidates' knowledge of French or German FINAL Sc GENERAL AND SPECIAL In their Second and Third years Students take the Courses for these Examinations and should consult the Dean with regard to the selection of subjects For the General degree three subjects are required to be taken and may be selected from the following Pure Mathematics VIII Zoology II Applied Mathematics IX Physiology III Astronomy Psychology IV Experimental Physics XL Anthropology Chemistry XII Military Science VI Geology XIII Statistics VII Botany XIV Geography The Special Sc Examination may be taken in one of the above subjects but the Candidate is also required to take subsidiary subject Pass or Honours Degrees may be obtained at either the Special or General Sc Examinations MASTER OF SCIENCE For the Sc in subjects other than Mathematics Thesis has to be submitted At least one calendar year must elapse between the Sc Examination and the presentation of Thesis for the Sc Candidates in Mathematics either- take the Sc Honours Examination papers and special set of four papers chosen from those mentioned in the University Calendar or present Thesis At least two academic years must elapse between the Sc Examination and the Sc Examination in Mathematics Full details are given in the University Calendar DOCTOR OF SCIENCE Students who have obtained the Sc Degree may proceed to the Sc by research work which may be carried out in the College Arrangements are also made for supervising the studies of Graduates of other Universities who may be admitted as Internal Students and as Candidates for higher degree in the University of London under Statute 113 The minimum period of study prescribed is two years
