ANNUAL REPORT Vll training as student in the Theological Department £250 was received from the Central Board of Finance for the Hostel Building Fund which Fund also received £37 9s 8d from old Hostellers and £86 2s 2d in smaller sums Hostel The Hostel has been almost full during the whole year Mr Cheetham place has been filled by the appointment of Professor Barry as Assistant Warden and Heawood Esq as Tutor Grand Night was held as usual during the Michaelmas Term and brought large number of former residents together The Hostel has been lent for several conferences of religious and educa- tional character During the Summer Vacation new departure was made by holding Vacation School for the study of the Old Testament The Society of the Old Testament and the Church Tutorial Class Move- ment co-operated in this and the experiment proved very successful Professor Box and Major Povah deserve gratitude for their work in organising the School General During the Easter Term an inspection of the Theological Depart- ment was made by the Bishop of Manchester and Sir Arthur Hort on behalf of the Central Advisory Council of Training for the Ministry The Inspectors spent several days in the College and Hostel No remarks have been received from them and it may be assumed that they did not desire to suggest any alterations in the methods of the Faculty The examinations for the have again been conducted with the assistance of the Rev Canon Cooke as external examiner appointed by the Central Advisory Council The Theological Staff again conducted the annual examination in Divinity at St Katherine's Training College Tottenham the examiner this year being Professor Η Relton Among appointments of former students the Council note with pleasure that of the Rev Hawes as Vice-Principal of Salisbury Theological College Mr Hawes obtained First-Class Honours in the Biblical and Historical Theology last year Site Question The Council at the request of the University sent deputation to interview the Chancellor of the Exchequer Among those who attended on behalf of the Council were the Bishop of Gloucester the Principal Mr English Harrison Lord Beauchamp and the Dean The case of the Council was fully stated by the Bishop of Gloucester and the Principal At the same time deputation from the Senate presented the views of the University No definite result of this meeting can be reported but the Council have before them proposal from the
