xxiv ANNUAL REPORT Department of Zoology -There were 89 regular students in the Depart- ment during the session These were distributed as follows -First Medical 41 Intermediate Science excluding those who took the Inter- mediate Science Examination in lieu of the First Medical Conjoint 21 Second Year Science including Honours students Third Year Science including Honours Students Research Students Post-graduate Evening Students In addition students from other colleges attended Professor Dendy's Inter-collegiato course on Sponges Professor Dendy was engaged on report on deep-sea sponges from the Indian Ocean for the Indian Museum and on other work on sponges Dr Mackinnon continued work on parasitic protozoa and is now engaged on the preparation of hand-book of practical protozoology Dr Tribe was investigating the development of the urinogenital ducts and the amnion in Sphenodon Dr Wyeth continued his study of the development of the brain of Sphenodon and of the chick Mr Burton worked on collection of sponges from South Africa for the British Museum Mr Hentschel continued his work on the gregarines of Cirraiulus Miss Frederick left the Department and her place as Demonstrator was not filled In the Final Sc Examination 1923 Miss Isabel Baker obtained First Class Honours and Miss Chisman Pass Degree Miss Marjory Shaw was awarded Sir Owen Robert's Prize It is gratifying to be able to record the success of recent graduates from this department in obtaining good appointments During the year Miss Frederick became Lecturer in Biology at the Municipal Training College Brighton Miss Isabel Baker was appointed Junior Science Mistress at St Leonard's School for Girls St Andrews Dr Withycombe became assistant to the Professor of Zoology and Ento- mology at the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture Trinidad Mr Hentschel was appointed Demonstrator in the Biology Depart- ment at St Bartholomew's Hospital London Mr Guy Morison was appointed Research Assistant in Entomology in the North of Scotland Agricultural College Aberdeen Mr Burton became Biology Master at the Latimer Grammar School Hammersmith London Dr Mackinnon with Professor Dendy represents the Delegacy on the Executive Committee of King's College for Women Household and Social Science Department She has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Examiners in Biology for the First Medical Examination Miss Tribe proceeded to the degree of Sc good deal of material was added to the teaching collection number of zoological books belonging to the late Mr Row were presented to the Department and incorporated in the depart- mental library Some admirable models of the brain of Sphenodon and of the chick were presented by Dr Wyeth Two Advanced Lectures arranged by the University were given by Dr Lang of the Natural History Museum on Some work on
