XXII ANNUAL REPORT degrees and obtained Pass degrees at the University examination in October 1923 and obtained Honours at the examination in June 1924 Department of Education -The number of students in training under the Board of Education was as high as the Board's rules permitted as in the past the number of applicants for admission in October 1924 greatly exceeded the accommodation At the Teacher's Diploma Examination of the University July 1924 19 students presented themselves of whom 17 passed was referred in practical teaching and failed Of the senior Post-graduate students two were ex- amined in June for the degree of both passed Their theses were The Mendicants and English Education in the Thirteenth Century Miss Tolley and Essex Schools before 1600 Mr Williams former student of the Department Mr Charles was examined for the Teacher's Diploma External in December 1923 when he attained the mark of distinction for both his written and his practical work very unusual achievement in this examina- tion Mr Charles followed this success in the Education examination of 1924 by once again securing the distinction mark In conclusion the head of the Department desires to call especial attention to the devoted and efficient service rendered by Mr Showan Lecturer in Education Faculty of Laws Forty-seven regular students and 17 occasional students were enrolled in the Faculty during last session These numbers show an increase both as regards regular students and as regards occasional students when compared with those of the session 1922-23 in which there were 35 regular students and occasional students At the Intermediate LL Examination in July 16 King's College students were successful The Final LL Examination for internal students was also held this year in July There was not large entry of candidates probably owing to the change in the date of the examination from September to July One King's College student obtained First Class Honours another was awarded Second Class Honours and third passed the examination At the Final LL Examination for external students candidates who were enrolled at the College as occasional students were successful one obtaining First Class Honours another Second Class Honours and another Third Class Honours while the fourth passed the examination Faculty of Natural Science Department of Mathematics -The death of Dr Tinto and the retire- ment owing to ill health of Mr Edwards and of Miss Sheriff have already been mentioned The head of the Department Professor White also suffered from ill-health during the session and was com- pelled to be absent from the College during part of the Michaelmas
