204 FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Elementary Mechanics of solids and fluids Elementary Physics including heat light electricity and magnetism Elementary Chemistry including the principal properties of matter the laws of chemical affinity atomic weights valency and the chemistry of the principal inorganic elements Geometrical Drawing This Examination is recognised by the Council of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers as exempting from the Studentship Examina- tion of that Institution The Institution of Civil Engineers requires in addition that the Intermediate Sc Eng Examination or the First Year College Sessional Examinations shall have been passed DIPLOMA AND CERTIFICATE IN ENGINEERING CERTIFICATES Every candidate for the above certificates- Must have pursued his studies as Regular Student of the Division for nine Terms Note -This period may be reduced to not less than six Terms in the case of those who have obtained such external distinctions as may be deemed sufficient by the Board of Engineering Must satisfy the Faculty as to his conduct and as to attendance and progress in each subject included in one of the Courses given in the Time-tables Must pass in the following subjects Part Pure Mathematics Intermediate γ Applied Mathematics Intermediate Yj Physics and Physical Laboratory Intermediate Yt Applied Mechanics including Drawing and Laboratory Intermediate Engineering Drawing and Design Intermediate Yj One of the following Chemistry and Chemical Laboratory Intermediate Y8 Geology with Practical Work Intermediate and -Two of the following not taken under one at least of which must be from or Advanced Mathematics Pure and Applied 2nd year Zx Surveying with Field Work and Plotting Electrical Technology with Laboratory z1 z2 Satisfactory attendance implies 80 per cent of possible attendances at classes together with attendance at the Examinations
