xlvi REPORT given on Wednesday evening July 6th 1898 by the Right Hon Lowther formerly member of the Council and the ceremony was followed by highly successful con- versazione King's College School The School is making excellent progress in its new quarters The building mentioned in the last Report is now ready and in partial use It is to be formally opened on Monday June 26th by the Duke of Cambridge Mr Price Edinburgh and Mr George Heyer Cambridge have been appointed assistant-masters at the School Speech-day was held on Friday July 29th when the Dean of Canterbury distributed the Prizes and gave an address list of School Honours will be found at the end of the Report vacancy occurred among the Life Governors of the Col- lege owing to the lamented death of Mr Gladstone whose connexion with the College dated from the year 1838 when he first joined the Council The visitor having allowed the appointment of successor to lapse the Governors elected the Rev Dr Ince member of the Council and Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford to the vacant life-governor- ship The vacancy thus created in the Council will be filled up at the Annual Court The recent loss of the Rt Hon Sir Mowbray Bart who first joined the Council in 1877 creates another vacancy among the Life-Governors Sir Henry Acland Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford has to the great regret of the Council resigned his seat in that body The Council have elected in his place Dr William Playfair LL Emeritus Professor of Obstetric Medicine In addition to the Rev McCaul whose loss was referred to in connexion with the Faculty of Theology the Council record with regret the decease of the following eminent Fellows of the College -Sir William Anderson The Rev Α Κ Boyd Gottlieb William Leitner LL formerly Professor of Arabic in the College Dr Macnamara of the Indian Medical Service
