158 FACULTY OF SCIENCE MATHEMATICS Η Hudson Professor WDk edwabds As8i8tant lecturers Hours of Attendance First Year Mon Tues Wed Thurs and Fri 10 1X Second and Third Mon Wed Thurs 11-12 and Fri Years 12-1 Non-Matriculated Students can attend either or both of these courses every day from 10-1 Saturday excepted There are Examinations at Christmas and Midsummer The subjects comprise Algebra as far as and including quad- ratic equations and the Binomial theorem mensuration of areas and volumes centres of gravity and radii of gyration the theory and use of logarithms plane trigonometry in- eluding the solution of triangles and the calculation of areas the problems and theorems included in the first four books of Euclid the elements of projective geometry and perspective and the delineation of plane curves from their equations There are also Optional Papers in Higher Mathematics It is not desired that students should limit their reading to the prescribed minimum for the Examination Syllabus of lectures Arithmetic The science and art of Arithmetic including Whole Numbers and Vulgar and Decimal Fractions used accurately and approximately together with the applications of Arithmetic Text Boole Barnard Smith and Hudson's Arithmetic Macmillan Euclid -IV The propositions of Euclid to be learnt and said or written out Exercises to be shown up Students
