χΐ REPORT י REPORT presented to the ANNUAL COURT of MEMBERS KING'S COLLEGE on Friday May 13ίΛ 1898 The Council have much pleasure in submitting the follow- ing encouraging report of the year work of the College In the Theological Faculty there is steady maintenance of efficiency and slight increase in numbers Professor Knowling after several years of most valuable services as Vice-Principal resigned that office in July last The Rev Harold Smith at the same time resigned the office of Censor Chaplain and Theological Lecturer The Council decided to unite all the above offices and elected to them the Rev George Ernest Newsom of Merton College Oxford Mr Newsom's appointment as Theological Lecturer was duly approved by the Visitor and by the Bishop of London Dr Knowling continues to hold the Chair of New Testament Exegesis In the Faculty of Arts Laws aid General Literature the number of matriculated students other than Queen's Scholars remains small but they are of very fair university standard they are nearly all reading for the Intermediate Ex- amination of London University several of the Normal Students are reading for the same Examination The class for the London Matriculation Examination which was formed last year is developing well and may be expected to form valuable feeder for the various faculties of the College The Normal Department in spite of increasing stringency in the College examination for admission maintains its numbers In the examinations held by the Education De- partment the Normal Students of King's College in both years occupy the best position in the First Division among the eleven Day-Training Colleges for Men The Normal
