448 FACULTY OF SCIENCE "Distinction in one and leMeritמ in four subjects one of which must be the Special Technical subject taken up in the Third Year's Course -The taking of this Certificate in Honours is obliga- tory on all Candidates for the Assoc iatcship in the En- gineering Architecture and Applied Sciences Division The Certificate may in certain cases he taken with the permission of the Board of the Division in two years provided the Student attends the Classes in the Third Year Course and passes all the Examinations as laid down in Rule &tutoe11t Uemonsttatois The Professors of Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Natural Philosophy and Architecture are authorized by the Council to nominate to them in July of each year such Students as may be approved by the Board of the Faculty for appointment as Assistants for the ensuing year in their respective Departments The following are the conditions Candidates must be Students who have completed with distinction the third year course of study in the subject in which it is proposed they should assist but ceteris paribus Matriculated Students will have the preference Their duty will be to assist the Professors and Demon- strators both in the day time and evening at all Lectures and in Laboratory teaching and they must be prepared to give such time as may be required to this work during the year follow- ing their appointment They will however have much time for their own studies and for pursuing original research under the instruction of the Professors and Demonstrators They will have no emoluments but will be charged no fees They will be officially recognized in the documents of the College as Student Demonstrators and at the conclu- sion of their Course will receive from the Professors such testimonials as their character and work shall justify
