civil service classes 347 The Course lasts for twenty-two weeks and is divided into two periods of eleven weeks each Period Fee Course Three attendances per week £2 10 10 Two '6 12 One Students can join five weeks after the beginning of the period at two-thirds the period fee or for the remainder of that period and the whole of next period at one and half times the period fee All are advised to attend not less than twice week if they possibly can they ought not to attend three times unless they have the whole of their time for preparation Students are recommended to join the Class at the beginning of the course but there are admissions at regular intervals Students can join at other times but their fees which should if possible be previously paid at the College Office will date from the last regular admission The Secretary's Office is always open for the receipt of fees from 10 to Saturdays 10 to Any one joining the Class at the beginning of the course and proving successful in the previous competi- tion will have returned to her the portion of her fee that is unexpired when the result is made known Stationery and Books can be purchased in the class-room on joining Subjects of Examination -Handwriting Spelling Arith- metic Composition Geography and History Female clerks of the lowest class receive salaries of £65 per year rising by £3 annually to £100 Promotion to higher classes depends on merit First Class clerks receive from £105 to £130 per year principal clerks from £130 to £190 There are 386 in the 2nd Class 52 in the 1st and 12 principal clerks Candidates for examination must be unmarried and must be between 18 and 20 years of age Examinations may be expected about twice year Inquiries respecting this class should be addressed to Mr HARCOUhT Uptvep Snakes Lane Woodford
