REPORT xlv The Day Classes in connection with the Civil Service which have been just instituted are very successful the nnm- ber of students being already 122 The ages of the students run from 12 to 21 there are 33 senior students whose ages are 17 to 21 development not anticipated But these Classes were established mainly to enable the College to prepare candidates for the Boy Clerks Examinations and the remaining 90 Boys are mostly such as will sooner or later compete in this Examination The Class for Higher Miscellaneous Examinations main- tains its high reputation for successes In this year it has secured the first place in the Student Interpreter's Examination and Assistant Surveyors of Taxes Examination besides large proportion of the Appointments in these Examinations The Female Classes show an increase of 44 on last year The Class £or Female Clerkships is in particularly flourish- ing condition especially as to numbers whilst its successes in Examinations are more numerous than those of any other institution or class On the whole the total increase in the Department on last year is 305 or 190 if the Correspondence Students are excluded But the chief feature of the year is the establish" ment of the Day Classes which have achieved much greater success in their first three months than any other portion of the Civil Service work of the College has ever done -The School has had an unusual degree of success at the Universities as five Open Entrance Exhibitions were gained at Oxford between October 1892 and April 1893 In other respects there is not much of importance to record the general work and discipline of the Boys are highly satisfactory and the tone of the school is excellent
