Xliv REPORT highest reached except in the winter of 1884-5 which was 509 owing to the reduction of fees to one guinea since the winter of 1876-7 It is satisfactory to note that there were in this Department fifty-one students preparing for such examinations as the London Matriculation the Oxford Matriculation the Intermediate and Final Examinations in Arts and Sciences London the of Dublin the Institute of Bankers and other high-class examinations The attendance of Students in the Technical Classes has been very large the numbers having averaged in the two Winter Terms as follows Architecture 38 Construction Drawing 44 Drawing optional 40 Quantities 42 Archi- tectural Studio 14 Sanitary Instruction Mich Term 12 Wood Carving 33 The Carpenter's Company have continued their valuable ad and have granted 41 Nominations to enable deserving Students to join on payment of half fees The Prizes and Medals given by the Company are an additional inducement to emulation amongst the Students -The Ladies Department fully maintains its efficiency and its numbers are satisfactory considering the illness which has been prevalent -The Civil Service Classes are in very prosperous condition In the Second Division Classes the increases in each of the last four years since the Examinations were resumed have been 80 50 85 55 In October 1892 the slu ients took 97 out of 186 appointments offered for competition The Boy Clerks Customs and Excise and Boy Copyists and Telegraph Learners Classes have generally maintained their position Correspondence Classes appear for the first time They have met distinct want and at the end of the first year of this Class the Teachers are glad to find it has not injured the existing Evening Classes which on the contrary are larger than ever
