xlii report slightly increased but the amounts can now be paid ir four years instead of in three as heretofore The following changes have occurred in the staff -Sir Joseph Lister Bart has retired from the chair of Clinical Surgery anc Professor Rose has been appointed to succeed him thus leaving Professor Cheyne the sole occupant of the chaii of Systematic Surgery whilst Mr Barrow continue the teaching of Operative Surgery Professor Beale has desired to be relieved of part of his duties in the Chair 01 Systematic Medicine and Professor Duffin has been ap- pointed joint Professor with him and will lecture during the second half of the winter session Dr Dalton has been appointed Professor of Pathological Anatomy in sue- cession to Dr Duffin and Bottomley Pro- fessor of Botany and Vegetable Biology in succession to Professor Groves who has resigned The Throat department at the hospital has been reorganised and placed under the special charge of Dr Greville Macdonald distinguished former student in this department The Bacteriological Laboratory has proved great success during the past year It has attracted large number of zealous workers not only from London and the Provinces but from our Colonies and other Countries From the foundation of this class six years ago the number of Students who have entered for instruction or research has amounted to 419 of whom 89 have entered during the past Session During the past year the Instruction in Public Health given by the College has been greatly extended and includes now the proper systematic training of all classes of Sanitary Officials For some years past course of lectures has been given both to Medical and Divinity Students by Prof Kelly but to meet the requirements of the various Licensing Bodies for the Diploma in Public Health which have come into force for candidates registered under the Medical Acts
