xl REPORT Taking the College as whole the total number of Stu dents has considerably increased but this increase has beei chiefly in the Students who are not matriculated or who atten special classes The Matriculated Students however show an increase in the Theological Department and maintain ar unusually high number in the Engineering Department -The Theological Department is in very satisfactory position Central Entrance Examination for all non-graduatt Students has recently been established by the Bishops The standard of this examination is very much the same as thai which has been hitherto required for entrance to King's College but as special preparation in one or two additional subjects seems desirable the Council have placed the existing preparatory class under special Theological Tutor for this purpose and the Rev Cheadle Minor Canon of Westminster has been appointed to this office -The General Literature Department -The number of ordinary students continues small and must do so until the University question in London is settled but the total number in the Department is materially increased by the Day Training Students or Queen's Scholars The work of the Queen's Scholars as tested by the Examination of the Education Depaitment as well as the College Examination has shown considerable improvement Their conduct has been satisfactory Several are engaged in reading for the Bachelor of Arts degree of the University of London The Day Training College" or Normal Department is now in the third year of its existence The contingent of Queen's Scholars first admitted completed their course in July 1892 and then left the College in order to take up their work as certificated teachers in Public Elementary Schools At the present time there are fifty Queen's Scholars pur- suing their training in the College that being the maximum number which the College is authorised bv Govern- ment to receive
