562 civil service classes -SECOND DIVISION CLERKSHIPS INCLUDING LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL OLERKSHir AND CLEM- SII1PS AT CUSTOMS OUTPORTS See page 558 for arrangements that arc common to all Clout in Division Competitions for Second Division Clerkships may be ex- pected twice year-about April and October Students with their whole time for preparation who prefer not to attend the day classes should attend three evenings week-Monday Wednesday and Friday Others are recommended to attend two at least until they have reached an advanced stage of preparation But if they elect to attend one evening only all the subjects will be dealt with The General Classes meet from 45 to but it is gener- ally advisable to attend at 10 as there are short special claeee at this hour free to all Students Fees -One evening per week One period of ten weeks £1 7s two periods often weeks £2 Ss Two evenings per week One period often weeks £2 51 two periods of ten weeks £ Three evenings per week One period of ten weeks £3 31 two periods of ten weeks £5 105 The instruction is graded For this purpose the Claee is divided into four Sections Upon joining Students are examined and placed in the Section which will give them the help they need They are moved to higher Section irame- diately they are found qualified Students who have reached very advanced state of pieparation before joining may if in the Lecturers' opinion qualified be placed at once in the Upper First Section Second Division Clerkships being so much sought after and the competition for them being consequently 80 severe it is of the greatest importance that candidates should pB their preparation early-that is at 16 if not preparing for
