ENGINEERING 179 Students will have the advantage of the use of the Building Construction and Architectural Reference Museum and the opportunity of borrowing practical models therefrom under conditions which will be posted up in the Lecture Room Each Student whose diligence may have entitled him to the privilege may be selected by the Professor to visit works he may have in progress or buildings of special interest in the Metropolis Examinations will be held at the end of each term when the quality of notes taken by the students will be taken into account The Courses are arranged so that by following them together with those on Land Surveying and Levelling Geometry and Freehand Drawing under the respective Pro- lessors the Student may excepting office experience and work fully prepare for the Intermediate and Final Exam- nations of the Royal Institute of British Architects as set forth in their Kalendar short course of Lectures is also given upon Architectural Design and the History of the Art The Carpenters' Company give Prizes of £4 £3 and £2 in the Second and Third years for the best work in these Classes They have also enabled the Council to establish an evening School of Technical Art wherein instruction both η Architecture and Woodcarving is given These Classes will begin October Mechanical Engineering Second Year Tuesday 11 45-12 45 Wednesday 30-2 30 Strength of Materials -Simple Stresses-Tension-Com- ression-More Complex Stresses-Bending-Shear-Torsion -Simple Structures-Riveted Joints-Alternating Repeated nd Sudden Loads Occasional demonstrations on the twenty- ive ton testing-machine will be given in illustration of these ectures Μ
