ORIENTAL SECTION 165 "OUSELEY" SCHOLARSHIPS The "Ouseley" Scholarships of the Oriental School and the expenses connected with their administration are provided for by the annual produce of £5 000 stock and £100 cash which amounts were vested in the names of the Duke of Fife Lord Rosebery and Lord Herschell as Trustees by the Misses Ouseley in memory of their father the late Colonel Jasper Ouseley The Scholarships are to be given for proficiency in Arabic Persian Hindustani and other Oriental languages 01 in some or one of such languages י The value of each Scholarship will be £50 per annum The examinations will be held in July of 1894 and each subsequent year for three Scholarships The Scholarships are tenable for two years provided that the conduct of the Scholar is considered to be satisfactory by the Trustees and power is given to the Trustees to extend the tenure to three years in special cases Candidates must either have been Students of the School of Oriental Studies of the Imperial Institute or must become Students therein if elected for so long period as the Scholarship is tenable and in no case for less than one year The age of Candidates is to be that of Candidates admitted for competition for the Indian Civil Service viz above 21 years and under 23 years of age on the 1st of July of the year of examination Candidates must give notice of intention to compete on or before July the 1st in each year after the first year and age will be reckoned up to that date The first Scholarship is to be given for Arabic the second for Persian and the third for Chinese due announce
