xliv REPORT year As the Examinations after suspension of three years are now being' held regularly it may be expected the classes will this ear reach their former number viz 400 In the first Examination recently held students of this College gained 35 of the whole 65 Clerkships offered and in the second 51 of the whole 81-results that compare very favourably with those of the most prosperous times The Boy Clerics'' Class after remaining stationary for long time is now decidedly improving Excise Examinations have been suspended for four years and the Excise Class is therefore still very small but if as is expected the Examinations are to be resumed in August the numbers will soon improve Customs Examinations have also been suspended but these have never brought many Students The Female Classes show an increase proportionate to that in the Male Classes The Female Examinations have not been intermitted and the increase hiring the last two years is doubtless due to the substitution of morning for evening classes -In the School there is an encouraging increase in the total number of boys and the Head Master reports that its general discipline and work have been in all respects most satisfactory The number of boys in the School during the Lent Term of this year was 273 divided as follows 75 in the Classical Division 80 in the Mathematical Division 99 in the Commercial Division and 19 in the Junior School The Special Services held at the end of each Term were very well attended The Bishop of London held the Annual Confirmation in the Chapel in November and 54 Candidates were piesented from the School The Council notice with pleasure the accession of former School boy to the Episcopal Bench in the person of the Rev Festing Bishop of St Albans The following is list of the chief Honours which have been gained at the Universities by boys of the School during the past year
