518 CIVIL SERVICE CLASSES Students with their whole time for preparation should attend three evenings-Monday Wednesday and Friday Others are recommended to attend two at least until they have reached an advanced stage of preparation these are Monday and Wednesday But if they elect to attend one evening only all the subjects will be dealt with the single attendance is on Monday except in the Upper 1st Sec where it is Friday The General Classes meet from 30 to 45 but it is gener- ally advisable to attend at 50 as there are short special classes at this hour free to all Students Fees -One evening per week One period of ten weeks £1 two periods often weeks £2 8s Two evenings per week One period of ten weeks £2 5s two periods of ten weeks £4 Three evenings per week One period of ten weeks £3 3s two periods of ten weeks £5 10s The instruction is graded For this purpose the Class is divided into three Sections Upon joining Students are examined and placed in the Section which will give them the help they need They are moved to higher Section imme diate they are found qualified Students who have reached very advanced state of preparation before joining may if in the Lecturer's opinion qualified be placed at once in the Upper F'irst Section Second Division Clerkships being so much sought after and the competition for them being consequently so severe it is of the greatest importance that candidates should begin their preparation early-that is at 16 if possible and if not preparing for Boy Clerkship It is equally important that their attendance should be continuous The subjects of examination for Second Division Clerkships and Customs Outport Clerkships are the same Handwriting highest marks attainable 400 Orthography 400 Arith- metie including Tots 400 Copying MS to test accuracy 200 Indexing or Docketing 200 Digesting Returns into Summaries 200 English Composition 200 Geography
