WORKSHOP EVENING CLASSES 487 CARPENTER'S SHOP Instruction in the use and methods of sharpening and setting Tools-Scarf Mortice and Dovetail joints-Wheel Teeth-Construction of simple Wooden Structures Valve Models &c MACHINE SHOP Wood Turning-Methods of Chucking &c Metal Work-Hammer and Chisel-File and Scraper- Surface Plates-Scribing Blocks &c Metal Turning-Screw Cutting-Planing Machine-Slot- ting Machine-Shaping Machine-Milling Machine and other labour saving appliances SMITH'S SHOP Making and Tempering Tools-Forging &c For those attending Mechanical Engineering Evening Class general preliminary course in the workshops will be arranged Students will then enter upon the Laboratory course Instruction will be given in the use of the Testing-machine The Testing-machine is capable of exerting pull of 50 000 lbs and was the gift of the Clothworkers Company Steam Engine trials will also be made for the instruction of students Fee £2 2s per term of about twelve weeks payable in advance in the College office Students who desire to make lathes &c for themselves will be charged for the materials castings &c used Further information may be obtained from the Professor of Mechanical Engineering or at the College office CL0THW0RKERS PRIZES Prize of £2 10s in Books for Metal Work and similai Prize for Wood Work is given every year by the Cloth-
