REPORT χ ίίί Η -The Civil Service Classes give every rer pon for satisfaction The Male Classes for the first time for several years show small increase No Open Examinations for Second Division Clerkships have been held since August 1887 The number of Second Division students consequently declined from 400 in 1887 to 230 in 1889 The Examinations are to be resumed next month May 1890 and already the number of Students has gone up to 312 The Excise Examinations have been stopped with an unimportant exception for three years hence there is decline of 60 in the class preparing for them The Female Classes after temporary falling off are again increasing The Female Clerks' Class is especially in flourishing and progressive condition due to large extent no doubt to the morning class recently established The extension of morning classes for the female students is an urgent necessity As the Second Division Examinations are now resumed and as the resumption of the Excise Examinations in No- vember of this year is confidently expected the period of depression which began in 1887 may now be considered at an end -On the retirement of Dr Stokoe from the Headmaster- ship of the School the Council had the satisfaction of obtaining the services of Bourne Esq who had been distinguished as Master at Marlborough at Bedford and at Inverness and they have every reason to be encouraged by the result of his two first terms of office The number of boys in the School during this Term is 262 divided as follows in the Classical Division 81 in the Mathematical Division 73 in the Commercial Division 88 in the Junior School 20 The Competition for the Entrance Exhibitions at the beginning of this Term was unusually good and each of the three Exhibitioners elected shows considerable promise Now that school of Electrical Engineering has been founded in the College it may be well to point out that the γ τ
