REPORT xli Practical work for students in Electrical Engineering Such students have attended the regular course for students of the Applied Science Department supplemented by practical work for two days week in the Wheatstone Laboratory At present attending the Wheatstone Laboratory there are Ten Third Year Applied Science students Twelve Medical students Thirty Occasional students -The Medical her Medical ommon with the schools of London from the unsatisfactory arrangements for the granting of Medical Degrees in the existing University and here also therefore much depends on the reorganization of the University system in London But the department holds its ground The number of students who are aiming simply at professional qualification is rather less but there is an increase in the number of those who are pursuing the higher scientific course which leads to University Degrees The discipline of the Department has been excellent Several changes have occurred during the year in the staff of the Department at the Hospital and the Council must record with especial regret the retirement of Professor John Wood Professor Wood's whole career from the time he was Medical Student has been passed in the service of King's College and its Hospital and he has devoted to it the most earnest energies of his life The best influences and traditions of the College and Hospital are associated with him and his name will be always remembered with high honour within its walls and among its friends Mr Cheyne now takes charge of the beds which were allotted to Professor Wood Mr Penny Assistant Surgeon Penny Assistant Surgeon has also re- signed and in the places thus vacated Mr Carless former distinguished Student of the College and Mr Burghard whose career at Guy's Hospital was of the highest eminence have been appointed The Committee of Management of the Hospital at the request of the Council have felt able to reopen the Todd Ward which was closed five years ago υ τ
