50G CIVIL SERVICE CLASSES privilege is not lost if lie should be discharged at 20 Offiro hours generally 10 to Holidays with pay from fortnight to month per year in addiiion to the Bank Holidays &c One who has passed the Boy Clerk's Examina- tion can while awaiting appointment obtain employment as Boy Copyist without further examination As the competition for Second Division Clerkships is so severe no unnecessary interval should elapse after ceasing to prepare for Boy Clerkship and before joining the Second Division Clerks' Class Students can if necessary be trans- ferred to the Second Division Clerks' Class before the expira- tion of their fee and proportionate period of attendance will be allowed -EXCISE See page 498 for arrangements that are common to all Classes in Division Competitions were held twice year-in May and No vera- ber They have been irregular for some time but will now in all probability be held as of old regularly twice year in the same months Courses of preparation commence in December and June and continue until the May and November Examinations respectively They are divided into two periods of 10 weeks each The general Classes meet from 30 to 45 but it is generally advisable to attend at 50 as there are short Special Classes at this hour free to all Students Fees -One evening per week One period of 10 weeks £1 7s two periods of 10 weeks £2 8s Two evenings per week One period of 10 weeks £2 58 two periods of 10 weeks £ The Class is divided for Arithmetic only into First and Second Section Upon joining Students are examined and placed in the Section which will give them the help they need If placed in the Second they will be moved to the First immediately they are found qualified
