374 DEPARTMENT FOR LADIES German Tuition by Correspondence Ladies living at distance from London may receive instruction in German by Correspondence They will be entitled to do the written work of either the Composition or the Grammar Class and any difficulties with which they may meet in reading the Text-Books will be explained to them in writing The ladies joining the Correspondence Class will be informed every week of the work set to the two Classes respectively and they will be expected to send in their per- formances weekly The latter will be returned corrected Fee Ā£1 lis Qd per Term German Literature Friday 12-1 The Lectures on German Literature will be delivered in German The Professor will receive German resumes of his Lectures and return them corrected It is proposed to devote the Lectures on German Literature during the present session to thorough study of the writings of Lessing Goethe and Schiller which plan it is hoped rill afford greater advantages and intellectual enjoyment to the students than mere account of the historj7 of German literature could do The principal works treated in the lectures will accordingly be fully analysed and illustrated by the reading aloud of copious extracts calculated to show the chief characteristics of the respective writings The extracts will be read partly by the Professor himself and partly by those ladies who may wish to do so The latter
