MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 321 Post-mortem Clerk -There shall be two Post-mortem Clerks who shall act under the direction of the Pathological Registrar House Surgeons -No Student is eligible to enter on the duties of this office at period later than six years from the date of his Matriculation or year of standing see page 262 in the Medical Department or seven years if he have passed the Primary the Intermediate Examination of London or the corresponding Examination of any other British University He shall at the date at which his duties commence be Member of British College of Surgeons and shall have served to the satisfaction of the Surgeons the offices of Out and In-Patient Dresser for the full period of six months each The viva voce examination shall be chiefly in Anatomy and the application of Surgical Apparatus Bandages &c the written examination in Surgery and Materia Medica including Toxicology The House Surgeon shall visit the surgical wards daily between 10 and 12 15 o'clock in the morning accompany the Surgeon during his visit and prescribe under his direction shall see such patients in the evening as he may think neces- sary and shall be responsible for the proper management and dressing of all the surgical cases The instruments and surgical apparatus shall be in his charge and he shall make Monthly Report of their condition to the Medical Committee He shall superintend the necessary preparations for and be present at all operations He shall give early notice of all important operations to the medical officers by filling up and transmit- ting the printed forms prepared for that purpose and shall send regular notice to the College of such operations and of the Surgical Clinical Lectures such notices to be forwarded at the earliest possible moment to the porter of the Anatomi- cal Department In the event of the death of patient in the Surgical Wards he shall send immediate notice to the Surgeon under whose care the patient was admitted and to the Pathological Registrar χ
