MEDICAL DEPARTMENT ן 319 in which the placenta is not expelled within half an hour after delivery and in all cases of doubt or difficulty the attendant must communicate at once with the Resident-Accoucheur No attendant is to use any obstetric instrument ad- minister ergot of rye or chloroform or introduce his hand into the uterus without the sanction of the Resident- Accoucheur With the view of preventing as much as possible the risk of conveying septic disease every attendant must provide himself with bottle containing in 000 solution of pcrchloride of mercury writh which his hands must be kept continuously wetted during the whole progress of the labour lie must also carry with him phial of carbolic glycerine in for the purposes of lubrication 10 No attendant whether Regular or Non-regular may dissect or frequent the post-mortem theatre during his period of office 11 No Regular attendant can hold the appointment of Surgeon's Dresser or Physician's Clerk nor must he bo engaged in the dissecting room or post-mortem theatre The Clerks of the Physician-Accoucheur and all those holding Out-Patient appointments are exempted from this rule 12 Any attendant wishing to be temporarily off duty must arrange with the Resident-Accoucheur and submit to him the name of another properly qualified attendant who undertakes all responsibility during his absence 13 The Resident-Accoucheur has authority to suspend from duty any attendant infringing these rules but he must report such suspension to the Physician-Accoucheur 01 Assistant Physician-Accoucheur within twenty-four hours 14 No Student will receive certificate for practical in- struction in Midwifery unless he has acted for an entire month as Regular attendant in connection with King's College Hospital 15 Regular attendants will receive special certificate
