engineering 193 The fee for private instruction for the Course is 61 5s inclusive of Chemicals the number of lessons bein res u- iated as under Student Students lessons of hours each Students-10 Students-12 לל לל ל ל לל לל לל For fee of 13 10s private Student is entitled to attend- ance at Lectures and to the use of chemicals apparatus &c for three terms 12 Fine Art Established by aid of the City and Guilds Institute The Classes in Fine Art and Freehand Drawing are open to Students at such hours as shall be arranged with the Pro- fessor but they form no part of the prescribed Course of Study in this Department and extra fees have to be paid for them see page 206 Individual Instruction is given to Students in various branches of Fine Art such as Drawing from the Flat and from the Antique Monochrome Drawing on Wood Painting on China Etching the application of Plant and other Natural forms to Decoration and General Designing This School is established to meet some of those serious deficiencies in Modern Art Education which have long hindered the elevation of popular taste and have compelled Art Manufacturers and Publishers to employ foreign artists and workmen The demand for better class of Art draughtsmen has for some time made itself heard but it may be questioned whether the efforts hitherto made to supply an acknowledged want have not confined Art teaching too much within the narrow limits of bare mechanical uopying and drawing and have too often failed to stimulate י י 11 ד ד χ1 ד ב ד η 1m elf ν
