ENGINEERING 187 It will be seen from the above outline of the course of study followed that the Students are not only encouraged to make careful and accurate working drawings directly bearing on the subjects in which they receive instruction from the Professors of Civil Engineering Building Construction and Manufacturing Art but also receive such practical course of training in the principles and practice of instrumental drawing as enables them to at once enter high class offices on leaving the College Class lectures on Geometry Perspective Isometry &c are given as required and the Students work out the course suggested by such lectures and their Engineering Mechanical and Architectural drawing on alternate days Occasional Students can attend daily Saturdays excepted Chemistry Ī” Students of the first year are admitted to Course of Theoretical and Applied Chemistry from 10 20 to 11 20 on Tuesday aad Friday throughout the Academical Year The following subjects will be discussed Introduction -Illustrations and examples of chemical action Indestructibility of matter Simple and compound substances Laws of chemical combination in definite and multiple proportions Dalton's atomic theory Principles of chemical nomenclature Symbolic notation Formulae and equations Calculation of the quantities by weight taking part in reactions Division of elements into metals and non-metals French and English weights and measures Calculation of the weight and volume of gases at the standard temperature and pressure Atoms and molecules atomic and molecular weights Atomic and molecular formulae and equations Specific heat and atomic heat of the elements
