114 GENERAL LITERATURE II One Exhibition of Ā£50 given out of the Sambrooke Trust will be awarded to the Student who passes the best examination in Classics on entering this Department in October 1889 provided he is under seventeen years on October See page 129 III The regular work of the Term will begin on Thursday October Thursday January 16 and Thursday April 17 on which days all Students are required to be present in Chapel at 10 unless special leave of absence is obtained before- hand from the Principal IV The Council require that Half-term's Notice be given to the Secretary in writing of the removal of Student from the College This notice must be given before the close of the first half of the Term in which Student is to leave and if not so given the payment of Half-term's Fees will be required In 1889-90 the Half-terms will end on November February 18 and May 24 The Students received into this Department are- Matriculated Students or those admitted to the regular and full prescribed course of study Each Candidate for Matriculation must produce testi- monial of good character from his last instructor and when admitted by the Principal must subscribe his name to declaration that he will conform to all the rules and regula- tions which may from time to time be prescribed for the good government of the College under the sanction and authority of the Council Special Certificate is required in the case of Pupils coming up from the School See School page 525 Except by the special permission of the Principal no one is admitted Student of this Department under sixteen years of age
