נ 67 REPORT facturing world who were formerly among its students an may be added that at the present time-perhaps mor than at any former period-there are amongst the student the sons of many who have attained distinction in the variou branches of professional work which King's College claims be especially able to advance During the last few year several changes have been made in the work of the depart ment to meet the requirements of the time and it would appea that these changes are appreciated by those who have to selec place for the technical training of their sons It may observed that at the present time there are five Members ο the Council of the Institution of Civil Engineers who wer former students of this department In the Μεόιγαε Department there has been slight increase in numbers and the year has been an encouraging one in the public support given to the Hospital The Princess Louise gave her patronage to the Bazaar held in support of its funds and valuable improvements have been made in its structural and internal arrangements The liberality of Dr Crookshank former student of the College has enabled the Council to establish Bacteriological Laboratory the largest of its kind in England He has been appointed Professor of Bacteriology His classes have been very successful and the Sanitary Department of the Privy Council have shown their appreciation of the value of his work by seeking his advice on various occasions Professor Bentley resigned the Chair of Botany after twenty- eight years' service and has been succeeded by Mr Groves Professor Bentley's services will ever be most gratefully remembered in the College He has not only held י high place in the scientific world for his Botanical teaching but as Dean of the Medical Department for many years he contributed largely to its success and rendered services to its students which command their affectionate gratitude The Council have also to lament the death of Professor Blox&m י who taught Chemistry in the College since 1854 and he'd the Professorship of Chemistry since 1870 His scientilic
