י report 675 Α In the Theological Department there is an increase of nine in the number of students and there is every reason for satisfaction with the work done and the position held by those who gain tne Associateship of the College in this Department -In the Department of General Literature Mr Twentyman has gained scholarship at Christ's College Cambridge for Mathematics and Natural Sciences Mr Harold Smith has gained an Exhibition at St John's College Cambridge Mr Schwartz also has recently gained Scholarship at St Catherine's College Cambridge The number of students preparing for the London University Examinations has increased The department has also directed its attention to organizing course of commercial education which it is proposed to commence next Michaelmas The chief event however in the history of this Depart- ment during the year has been an important reorganization af its work by its division into two Departments-that of General Literature and that of Science The recent development of Science as distinct subject of study and the establishment at the London University and elsewhere of purely scientific degrees has rendered necessary the provision of special cur- riculum for those who devote themselves to this study The work of this new Science Department has been already com- menced and by October next the Council hope that it will be fully organized -The number of students in the Engineering De- partment though little less than last year has been well maintained and this is most satisfactory in view of the com- petition now offered by several technical colleges enjoying the advantage of various endowments which King's College does not possess The success which has attended the work of this department is evidenced by the continued record of distinguished men in the engineering scientific and maim- υ
