655 188 Friends of the College desirous op promoting the Higher Education of Ladies The sum of £6 890 on the occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the College for the purpose of founding new Department having this object in view The subscriptions after payment of the cost of the necessary Act of Parliament have been invested in the purchase of the Freehold of 13 Kensington Square and in the required alterations and fittings 1882 The Friends of the Rev Edward Hayes Plumptre formerly Professor of the Exegesis of the New Testament and now Dean of Wells the sum of £128 9s 5c for the foundation of Prize for English Language and Literature in the Theological Depart- ment as an expression of their deep sense of the invaluable services rendered by him through long and brilliant career to the cause of Christian truth and high moral principle sound learning and wide human culture and sympathy 1883 Sir Charles William Siemens the sum of £500 for the foundation of Gold Medal and Prize for the purpose of stimulating the Students of King's College London to high Standard of proficiency in the subject of Metallurgy 1884 The former Pupils and Friends of Alfred Barry formerly Principal of King's College London and now Bishop of Sydney the sum of £263 2s 6d invested in Portuguese Bonds to found Prize for Divinity in each Department of the Col- lege and in the School in recognition of the great services he has rendered to the College and as shewing their appreciation of the valuable work which he has done for the Church and for Education sum this purchase and remains first charge on the Ladies' Department
