THE SCHOOL 497 The special subject of study in this Division is Mathe- fanatics The regular course of instruction includes Physical and Political Geography Geology Chemistry Electricity and Magnetism English History and Literature French German iand Freehand Drawing Greek Latin and Geometrical Drawing may be substituted for some of the above subjects when such instruction is preferred Lectures in English Literature are given to the Upper Sixth Form by Professor Hayles Lectures in Chemistry are given to the Upper Forms by Mr Johnson and Elementary Lectures in Science to the Lower Forms by Mr Tomlinson -The Commercial Division This Division is intended to prepare Pupils for Mercantile life for the higher Mercantile course in the General Literature Department in King's College for Clerkships in the Home Civil Service and similar appointments It also affords the instruction requisite for the junior course of Commercial Education recommended by the London Chamber of Com- merce see page 685 The special subjects of study in this Division are French German or if desired Spanish or Italian all which are taught colloquially as well as grammatically and include Commercial Correspondence The regular course of instruction conforms as far as pos- sible to the scheme for Junior Commercial Education recom- mended by the London Chamber of Commerce and printed in the Appendix to this Calendar pp 685-698 It includes Commercial and Industrial Geography and History Com- mercial Arithmetic Book-keeping Precis Writing English Writing and Drawing Boys in the Upper Forms may attend the Lectures on Chemistry by Mr Johnson and those in the Lower Π
